When a Tree Has Outgrown Its Spot
Tree removal in Wichita usually means a tree that grew faster than anyone expected. A cottonwood or Siberian elm planted as a sapling can tower over a ranch house within a few decades, and by then its limbs reach the roof, the neighbor's garage and the power drop in the alley. Very few of those trees can be felled in one piece. A climber or a lift takes the crown apart from the top, limbs that would land on something are lowered on ropes, and the trunk comes down in sections short enough to drop safely or carry out through a gate.
Signs a tree should come out
Some trees are easy calls: a dead tree, a trunk split down a fork after a windstorm, a cavity big enough to put a hand in, mushrooms or conks at the base, or a new lean with soil heaved up on one side. Others take judgment, such as a healthy silver maple whose roots are breaking up the driveway, a Bradford pear that loses a big limb in every storm, or a hackberry that has simply gotten too large for a small back yard. We tell you what we see and whether pruning could fix the problem instead of removal.
Trees that tend to fail here
The trees that grow easily on the Arkansas River plain are often the ones that break. Cottonwood, Siberian elm and silver maple are fast-growing with relatively weak wood, and Bradford pears form tight forks that split apart as they get heavy. Wichita's weather tests all of them: the June 17, 2025 storm brought a 102 mph gust at the airport, and the NWS reported very extensive tree damage across the city. A tree that has already lost one major limb, or one with a long crack running down from a fork, is a good candidate for removal before the next storm.
Alleys, fences and power lines
Many Wichita lots back onto an alley with the electric service running along it. We do not cut near energized lines; if limbs are in the wires, the utility has to clear or de-energize them first, and we take the rest of the tree once it is safe. The City of Wichita says each adjacent owner maintains the vegetation on their half of an alley, so a tree on the line between two yards is worth talking over with the neighbor before it comes down. If the tree may stand in the street right-of-way, we tell you before quoting.
Wood, brush and the stump
You decide what stays. Logs can be left in rounds, cut to firewood length, or hauled off; brush is chipped and the chips left for mulch or taken away. Open burning inside the city needs a Wichita Fire Department permit and 250 feet of clearance from property lines and buildings, so on most lots chipping or hauling is the practical choice. The stump has its own line on the quote and can be ground the same day or later.
What We Handle
Removal includes taking the tree down and dealing with everything that comes off it.
Sectional removal
The crown and trunk taken apart from the top, with heavy pieces lowered on ropes where there is no room to drop them.
Dead and split tree removal
Trees killed by drought, disease or storm, and trunks split at a fork, taken down before they fail on their own.
Brush chipping
Branches fed through a chipper, with chips left for beds or hauled away.
Log handling
Wood left in rounds, cut and split to firewood length, or removed from the property.
Stump grinding add-on
The stump ground below grade on the same visit, priced as its own line.

How It Works
1. Look at the tree and the yard
We check the tree's condition, what is under it, the alley and power lines, and how to get equipment in.
2. Written price
Each tree, the method, the cleanup, the stump and the price, in writing.
3. Take it down
Limbs and trunk sections come off from the top and are lowered where needed.
4. Haul-off and cleanup
Brush chipped, wood handled as agreed, and the yard and alley raked out.

Why Choose Us for Tree Removal
Rigging over roofs
Limbs over a house or garage are tied off and lowered so they swing away from the building.
Neighbors kept in mind
On alley and fence-line trees we plan the drop zone so nothing lands in the next yard.
Tree Removal Questions
How much does tree removal cost in Wichita?
HomeGuide's 2026 national figures put most removals between about $400 and $1,200, with small trees under 30 feet from about $200 and very large trees over 80 feet at $1,200 to $2,500 or more. Access, what the tree hangs over and its condition matter as much as height. We give a written price after seeing it.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my own property in Wichita?
The city's Parks and Recreation FAQ says it does not work on trees on private property, and we have not found a city permit for removing a private yard tree. A tree that stands in the street right-of-way is a different matter, so ask the city's Forestry office at 316-268-4003 first. Some HOAs also have their own rules about removing trees.
Is a dead tree harder to remove?
Often, yes. Dead wood can snap without warning, so climbing and rigging take more care and sometimes a lift instead of a climber. HomeGuide notes dead trees often cost more to remove for that reason. Taking out a declining tree before it is fully dead is usually easier and safer.
Can you take down a tree that hangs over my neighbor's yard?
Yes, by lowering limbs on ropes so nothing lands where it should not. The crew may need to stand on the neighbor's side for part of the job, so it helps to let them know. Make sure the tree is yours first; for alley trees, the city says each owner keeps up their own half.
Is the stump included?
Only if you want it. Stump grinding is priced as its own line on the quote, so you can add it, leave it, or have it done later. Some trees, like Siberian elm and hackberry, sprout back from the stump if it is left, so grinding is worth considering for those.
