Tree Work in a City Built Since the 1950s
Our tree service work in Park City mostly involves trees that are now 40 to 70 years old, and that's a direct result of how the city started. Park City began as the Park City Improvement District in 1953 and didn't become a third-class city until November 26, 1980. The homes from those early decades now have trees that have outgrown their spots, while the newer neighborhoods have young trees that need shaping.
Two kinds of yards
In the older parts of town, we see silver maples, elms and hackberries that have been topped or left alone for decades. Topped trees regrow a cluster of weakly attached sprouts at each cut, and after 20 years those sprouts are heavy limbs hanging over roofs and driveways. Fixing that is gradual. We reduce the worst ones and sometimes recommend removal when the trunk below has rotted at the old cuts.
In newer subdivisions, the trees are younger and the work is lighter: clearing the roof, lifting limbs off the driveway, and choosing a single leader so the tree doesn't split later.
Wind along the corridor
Park City sits at about 1,365 feet elevation on open ground along I-135, and storms coming out of the west hit with little to slow them down. The June 17, 2025 windstorm that set Wichita's gust record also left tree damage in Park City, and Jabara Airport, a few miles east, measured 85 mph. We see the same pattern after every big blow: trees with included bark at a fork, or a long horizontal limb with no taper, are the ones that fail.
Where the wood goes
Park City is home to a recycling yard on West 53rd Street North that accepts grass, leaves, tree wood, brush and raw fencing, and turns it into usable material. The Sedgwick County Recycling Guide lists it as one of the area's yard waste drop-offs. We handle disposal on every job, so the brush leaves with us, but if you're doing small cleanup yourself it's a useful place to know about.
Population growth means new trees
The population climbed from 5,050 in 1990 to 8,333 in 2020, and the 2023 estimate was 8,808. Every new subdivision brings a new round of nursery trees. The cheapest tree work any homeowner ever pays for is pruning a tree in its first ten years, before a structural problem has a chance to form.
How we work
- Walk the yard with you and point out anything that worries us
- A written estimate that spells out cleanup and haul-off
- Rigging over roofs and fences where dropping isn't safe

Park City Questions
Someone topped my maple years ago. Can it be fixed?
Often it can be improved over a few visits by thinning the regrowth and keeping the strongest sprouts. If decay has moved down into the trunk from the old cuts, removal may be safer. We'll check the cuts and tell you which way we'd go.
Do I have to haul the brush myself?
No. Haul-off is part of our standard estimate. If you'd rather keep wood or chips, tell us and we'll note it on the quote.
How soon after a storm can you come out?
It depends on how widespread the damage is. Call (316) 512-2394 and leave details; trees on a house, across a driveway or hanging over a walkway get scheduled ahead of cleanup jobs.
My trees were planted when the house was built in the 1960s. What should I expect?
Trees that old are often at the age where deadwood builds up in the top of the crown and earlier topping or storm wounds start to decay. A check every few years, with deadwood removal and reduction of limbs over the roof, keeps them safer. Some will be worth keeping for decades; a few may be nearing the end.
