How Elite Tree Service Wichita Handles a Job

Elite Tree Service Wichita takes down, trims and grinds out trees for homeowners in Wichita and the towns around it in Sedgwick County. Most of the trees we see are the ones that grow well on the Arkansas River plain and then get too big for the yard: cottonwoods, Siberian elms, hackberries, silver maples, Bradford pears that split in the wind, and pines in old windbreaks that pine wilt has started to kill.

A job starts with a visit to the tree. We walk around it and look at the parts that matter for safety: dead wood in the crown, cracks and included bark at forks, cavities, fungus at the base, root plates lifting after a storm, and the needles on any Scots or Austrian pine. Then we look at what sits under it. In Wichita that often means a power drop running to the house, the alley line behind the back fence, a neighbor's garage, a privacy fence, or a driveway that is the only way in for equipment.

We also sort out whose tree it is. The City of Wichita does not work on trees on private property, and its Parks and Recreation FAQ says each property owner keeps up the vegetation on their half of an alley. If a tree looks like it stands in the public right-of-way along the street, we tell you before quoting so you can check with the city's Forestry office in Parks and Recreation (316-268-4003). Limbs tangled in energized power lines are the utility's job; we work on the rest of the tree once the line is safe.

After the visit you get a written quote. It lists each tree, what will be done to it, how the wood and brush will be handled, whether the stump is included, and the price. Nothing is cut until you approve it, and if the plan changes on the day, we agree on the change with you before going on.

What to expect on the day

  • Limbs over roofs and fences lowered on ropes instead of dropped.
  • Equipment kept to the paths agreed in the quote, with boards or mats on soft lawn where it helps.
  • Brush chipped; chips left for your beds or hauled off, your choice.
  • Logs left in rounds, cut to firewood length, or taken away.
  • Pine wilt wood chipped or hauled the same visit, not left stacked.
  • The yard raked and the street or alley swept before we leave.
