Kechi Lots Are Different
Kechi has about 2,217 residents spread across roughly 6 square miles, which works out to well under 400 people per square mile. Compare that with nearly 2,500 per square mile in Wichita. For tree service, that difference shows up right away: bigger lots, more trees per property, longer driveways lined with trees, and windbreaks that once protected farmsteads.
Where Kechi came from
The Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway ran a branch line through the area in 1887, and a post office opened in 1888. The town is named for the Kichai people and incorporated in 1957. It sits at about 1,381 feet, bordered by Bel Aire to the south. Its population grew from 1,909 in 2010 to 2,217 in 2020, much of it on larger residential lots.
The jobs that come with space
- Windbreak rows: thinning dead or leaning trees from old cedar, elm or pine rows without clearing the whole line
- Driveway clearance: lifting limbs so trucks, trailers and emergency vehicles can get in
- Dead tree removal: standing dead trees far from the house can wait a little; dead trees near the house, barn or drive can't
- Large stump grinding: rural-lot stumps are often bigger than suburban ones
- Brush pile handling: we chip on site or haul, as you prefer
Pines and pine wilt
Pine windbreaks and yard pines are common on acreage lots around Wichita, and pine wilt is the main threat to them. K-State says Scots pine is most affected in Kansas, with Austrian pine also susceptible. Infected trees often die quickly between August and December. K-State's recommendation is to cut them to ground level, leaving no stump, and destroy the wood by burning, burying or chipping before April 1, because the beetles that carry the nematode come out of the dead wood in spring. With several pines on one property, removing infected trees promptly is the best way to protect the rest.
Bagworms on cedars and junipers
Bagworms are the other pest we see on Kechi's junipers and arborvitae. K-State says they usually hatch in May and should be sprayed in late June while the larvae are small; August sprays are often wasted. Small infestations can be picked off by hand.
Wind exposure
Open ground north of Wichita takes the full force of storms. Jabara Airport, just south of Kechi, measured an 85 mph gust on June 17, 2025. Trees standing alone in a large yard, with nothing around them to break the wind, are the ones we check most closely for weak forks and root problems.

Kechi Questions
Can you remove just the dead trees in my windbreak?
Yes. We mark dead, dying and leaning trees with you, take those out and leave the healthy ones. Gaps can be replanted later if you want the windbreak to keep doing its job.
Do I need to grind the stump of a pine that died of pine wilt?
K-State recommends cutting infected pines to ground level and destroying the wood before April 1. Grinding the stump down finishes the job and removes wood the beetles could use.
Is there a tree service near me in Kechi that handles big acreage jobs?
We handle full-property work in Kechi, from a single dead tree to a day of windbreak thinning and driveway clearing. We'll walk the whole property and price each part so you can choose.
How much of my acreage can you clear in a day?
It depends on tree size, access and what's being kept. After we walk the property, the estimate breaks the job into parts so you can see what each section involves and choose an order.
Can you clear trees away from a septic field?
Yes. Tree roots can clog lateral lines, so trees growing close to a septic field are a common removal request. Let us know where the tank and lines are so we keep heavy equipment off them.
